(Adnkronos) – Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to five years in prison for criminal association in the trial for illegal financing by Libya of his 2007 presidential campaign.
The court ordered that Sarkozy be placed in pre-trial detention soon, giving prosecutors one month to inform the former head of state of the date he must be incarcerated. Even if Sarkozy appeals the sentence, the measure will remain in effect.
