(Adnkronos) – Airports in western Denmark have reopened after being closed for hours due to unidentified drones entering their airspace overnight. Billund Airport, the country’s second largest, was closed for an hour, while Aalborg Airport, used for commercial and military flights, was closed for three hours due to the drone incursions late yesterday evening, Danish police said.
Drones were also sighted near the airports of Esbjerg and Sonderborg, as well as at the Skrydstrup air base, where some of Denmark’s F-16 and F-35 fighter jets are operational. Danish national police say the drones followed a similar pattern to those that had grounded flights at Copenhagen Airport late Monday evening and early Tuesday morning. Police describe it as the most serious “attack” ever on its critical infrastructure and link it to a series of alleged Russian drone incursions and other unrest across Europe. The Russian ambassador to Denmark, Vladimir Barbin, denies any involvement of his country in the Copenhagen incident.
