(Adnkronos) – The confidence of German citizens in the government led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz is declining. This is according to an Insa poll for Bild, according to which the percentage of skeptics about the possibility of economic growth has risen to 56%. Among those interviewed, many say they have no hope that anything will improve, in terms of the economy, immigration or security.
Among the issues that the federal executive should deal with in a “more coherent” way according to the survey, 33% of the sample cited immigration, 23% the economy, then climate protection (14%), security (12%), education (9%).
Although immigration is considered the top political priority, few believe the situation will improve; in May, 32% were still convinced that the situation in the immigration and asylum sector would change for the better with the new coalition. In September, only 19% think so. At the same time, the percentage of those who expect a worsening has risen from 18 to 35% since May. (continued)
Confidence in the ability of the Union (CDU-CSU) and SPD to put the German economy back on track also continues to decline. While in May 43 percent still believed it, in mid-September it is only 28 percent. 56% are skeptical.
The mood is also gloomy on the subject of personal finances: only ten percent of those interviewed expect an improvement in their financial situation in the coming months. 41 percent expect no change and 39 percent even expect a worsening. This shows that many citizens have the impression of being in an extremely precarious situation from an economic point of view, Bild observes.
The survey highlights a contrasting mood on the part of citizens, the tabloid concludes: expectations are clear in terms of decisive measures that the executive should take, especially in the two sectors highlighted as priorities from their point of view. At the same time, however, confidence that the government can deliver on its promised results is waning.
