(Adnkronos) – Russian aircraft have violated Norwegian airspace on three separate occasions this year. This was stated by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, stressing that these incidents have raised serious security concerns and increased tensions between Norway and Russia. “The incidents in Norway are of lesser magnitude than the violations against Estonia, Poland and Romania, both in terms of location and duration. However, they are incidents that we take very seriously,” said the Norwegian Prime Minister.
Store added that two incidents occurred at sea northeast of Vardo in April and August, while the third occurred in an uninhabited area along the land border in eastern Finnmark in July. The border violations, which involved SU-24, SU-33 fighter jets and L410 Turbolet aircraft, lasted between one and four minutes, the premier said, stressing that Norway was unable to establish whether they were intentional or “due to navigation errors”. “Regardless of the reason, this is not acceptable and we have made this clear to the Russian authorities,” Store said.
