Moldova elections, Russian SVR accuses EU of planning occupation with NATO forces

23 Settembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – The Russian foreign intelligence services of the SVR have accused the European Union of planning the “occupation” of Moldova with NATO forces after Sunday’s legislative elections. An accusation that the SVR had already made in view of the vote for the presidential elections and the referendum on the EU last year. In a statement, the SVR writes that NATO is amassing military forces in neighboring Romania and in the Ukrainian port of Odessa, to quell protests after Sunday’s vote or in preparation for elections in Transnistria in November.

“Eurobureaucrats in Brussels are determined to keep Moldova in line with their Russophobic policies. They intend to do so at all costs, including by deploying troops and carrying out the de facto occupation of the country.” Yesterday, 74 people were arrested in Moldova as part of an investigation into Russian interference efforts in the country which, according to Western media yesterday, would include plans to orchestrate protests and disinformation campaigns for Moldovans abroad.

“The blatant violations of the voting results by Brussels and Chisinau will force desperate Moldovans to take to the streets to protest. In this case, at the request of President Maia Sandu, the armed forces of European countries will force Moldovans to submit to dictatorship under the banner of Euro-democracy,” added the SVR.
