(Adnkronos) – Hungary will continue to buy Russian oil despite US President Donald Trump’s request to NATO allies to halt Russian energy supplies. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told the Guardian, on the sidelines of the 80th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, saying he “understood” Trump’s approach, but stating that “we cannot guarantee a secure supply of energy products for our country without Russian oil or gas sources”.
Szijjarto specified that ”for us, the energy supply is a purely physical matter. It may be nice to dream of buying oil and gas from somewhere other than Russia… but we can only buy it where we have infrastructure. And it is obvious that without Russian supplies it is impossible to guarantee the security of the country’s supply”.
