(Adnkronos) – Six years after the fire that devastated Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, the north and south towers will reopen their doors to visitors starting tomorrow, on the occasion of the Heritage Days. Completely restored, they offer a breathtaking view of the capital and house ten bronze bells in their foundations, symbols of the building. During this weekend’s Heritage Days, President Emmanuel Macron personally climbed to the top of the towers to celebrate their reopening.
During the renovation work, the tower tour was completely reorganized and redesigned to make it a unique experience. “What makes this walk exceptional is being in the heart of the (south) tower, which offers us a view of the entire belfry (the large wooden structure that houses the bells), a view that is not found in any other cathedral,” Philippe Jost, president of the “Rebuilding Notre-Dame de Paris” organization, told BFMTV.
The work on the two towers was financed as part of phase 2 of the construction site, the restoration phase, for an amount of 552 million euros, according to the Court of Auditors. After intense months of work and reconstruction, Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris was officially reopened on December 7, 2024, and opened to the public the following day. Although the essential work has been completed, “our ambition is now to complete the full restoration,” Philippe Jost told AFP. The next intervention aims to renovate the apse, at the eastern end of the building, beyond the choir.
