(Adnkronos) – France is preparing for one of the biggest strikes in recent years, as unions join forces to pressure the new prime minister, Sébastien Lecornu, to reconsider budget cuts and act on wages, pensions and public services. According to police, about 800,000 people will take to the streets across the country today to demonstrate, with repercussions also on schools, trains and air transport. A total of 80,000 police officers will be deployed.
It is expected to be the largest day of demonstrations since 2023, when large numbers of people took to the streets to protest the use of executive power to push through Emmanuel Macron’s increase in the French retirement age to 64 without a vote in parliament.
