Democratic leader, ‘stop Kimmel Trump’s abuse of power, declared war on the First Amendment’

(Adnkronos) – Having forced the ABC network to suspend Jimmy Kimmel’s show for accusing Donald Trump and his associates of politically exploiting the assassination of Charlie Kirk is “a corrupt abuse of power.” This is what Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic minority leader in the House, stated in a declaration where he points the finger at Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, the agency that regulates the media, accusing him of having, with his threats, “forced” the broadcaster to “kneel to the wishes of the Trump administration.”

“The war of Donald Trump and the Republicans on the First Amendment is blatantly in contrast with American values,” continues the statement signed by the rest of the Democratic leadership in the House. “Media companies, like the one that suspended Kimmel, have a lot to explain. The censorship of artists and the cancellation of shows are an act of cowardice and can also be part of a corrupt scheme.” “House Democrats will make sure Americans know the truth,” concludes the statement, referring to the launch of a congressional inquiry.
