EU suspends payments to Israel

17 Settembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – The European Commission suspends bilateral support to Israel, with the exception of support for civil society and Yad Vashem. The measure affects future annual allocations between 2025 and 2027, as well as ongoing institutional cooperation projects with Israel and projects funded under the EU-Israel Regional Cooperation Fund.

The proposals follow a review of Israel’s compliance with Article 2 of the agreement, which found that “the actions taken by the Israeli government represent a violation of essential elements relating to respect for human rights and democratic principles”. This “authorizes the EU to suspend the agreement unilaterally”.

These are measures, explained the Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica, that the Commission can adopt unilaterally, without having to be approved by the Council, unlike the proposed sanctions and the partial suspension of the trade aspects of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
