(Adnkronos) – Denmark has concluded the largest arms purchase in its history for a value equivalent to almost 7.8 billion dollars. The main objective of this new investment announced by the government, and on which the opposition parties also agree, is the acquisition of systems and missiles to strengthen air defense. Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen warned that Ukraine’s experience shows that this defensive model must be “a top priority”.
The acquisition of long-range systems is planned, involving a wide range of companies, not from the US, but from France, Italy, Norway, and Germany, with a view not only to complementarity, but also to faster delivery times. Denmark currently allocates an amount equal to 3 percent of GDP for defense and has committed to increasing this share to 5% by 2035, in line with the goals set at the last NATO summit. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has even outlined a possible early achievement of this new goal.
