TikTok ‘it’s toxic and addictive’, France considers ban for under 15s

11 Settembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – The French parliamentary commission of inquiry into TikTok has recommended banning the social platform for children under 15 to counter the “algorithmic trap” that can compromise the health of young people. And this is because it is “one of the worst social networks that attacks our young people”, “outlaw”, “repeat offender” and with ”toxic and addictive content”, reads the report that the Parisian parliamentary commission has drawn up on the psychological effects of TikTok on minors, presented today. Among the parliamentarians’ recommendations are also the establishment of a “digital curfew” on social media from 10pm to 8am for teenagers between 15 and 18 years old, the launch of a massive information campaign on the risks associated with their use and the introduction of a “digital negligence crime” for parents.

After hearing 178 experts, stakeholders and witnesses and collecting over 30,000 responses as part of a citizen consultation, rapporteur Laure Miller (Ensemble pour la République) has drawn up a damning report. “This is a company that doesn’t care about the mental health of our young people,” the deputy told Le Monde.

“Within TikTok they can say they attach great importance to this aspect, but they are not making the efforts they could easily make,” she added. In his preface, the chairman of the commission, Arthur Delaporte (Socialist Party), agrees: “The verdict is clear: this platform knowingly exposes our children, our young people, to toxic, dangerous and addictive content”.
