(Adnkronos) – The day after the “Block Everything” mobilization, which sparked tensions across France, the Interior Ministry provided a new update on the arrests: according to the latest available data, 675 people were stopped and checked across France during the day of protests, of which 280 in Paris. 549 of them were taken into custody. Finally, 34 law enforcement officers were slightly injured. Specifically, 19 National Police officers, 14 members of the Paris Police Prefecture and 1 gendarme.
The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office meanwhile reported, at 8:00 this morning, that “164 people were in custody”. Yesterday the prosecutor’s office had indicated that most of the individuals had been arrested for “offenses of participation in a group with the intent to commit violence or damage”, while others had been arrested for “damage to property”, “attacks against law enforcement” or “obstruction of traffic”. In the rest of France, 34 people were arrested in Nantes, where one protester was hospitalized for tear gas, and 16 police officers were slightly injured, according to the prefecture. In Toulouse too, violent clashes marked the end of the demonstrations.
In the center of the capital, a fire damaged the facade of a building, probably accidentally triggered by a police intervention. Finally, in Rennes, a bus was vandalized and set on fire by protesters, reported Star, the public transport company.
Bruno Retailleau hailed “the defeat of those who wanted to block the country”, while the leader of La France Insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, described this “self-organized demonstration” as a “success”.
