(Adnkronos) – The death toll from the magnitude 6 earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan on Sunday evening has risen to over 2,200, with more than 3,600 injured. The Taliban government announced this, updating the toll of the tragedy.
According to Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the executive, in Kounar province alone there are 2,205 dead and 3,640 injured, while rescue operations continue unabated to search for survivors and assist the affected population. Authorities have warned that the death toll could continue to rise in the coming hours.
