China, Xi launches ‘global governance’ initiative to reduce North-South gap

1 Settembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined a global governance initiative at the meeting of the SCO, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, underway in Tianjin, China. “I would like to propose a global governance initiative and work with all countries to jointly create a more just and equitable international system, promoting a community with a shared future for humanity,” Xi said, insisting on the need to ”reduce the development gap between the North and South of the world”.

According to the initiative, all nations, regardless of their size, strength or wealth, should enjoy equal opportunities and participation in global governance. “We must promote the democratization of international relations and amplify the representation and voice of developing countries,” Xi stressed.

Xi added that global governance should be based on broad consultations, collaborative resource sharing and collective decision-making, rejecting unilateral actions as ”unacceptable”.
