(Adnkronos) – The United Nations Security Council has voted for the withdrawal of peacekeepers from Lebanon in 2027, after approving a final extension of the mandate of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), whose withdrawal had been requested by Israel and the United States. Faced with the threat of a US veto, the body unanimously voted a resolution that will extend “for the last time” the mandate of the peacekeeping force, in which there is a strong Italian component: according to the website of the Italian Ministry of Defense, Italy has authorized a maximum deployment of 1,256 soldiers, 374 land vehicles and 6 aircraft in support of the mission.
