(Adnkronos) – A group of international observers, made up of representatives from five countries, visited the area surrounding the Preah Vihear Temple, “with the aim of observing, verifying and reporting on the situation following the ceasefire agreement” with Thailand. This was announced by the Cambodian Ministry of Information, disseminating a statement from the local Ministry of Defense, which facilitated the visit, led by Malaysian Colonel Nazlee Bin Abdul Rahim, Kuala Lumpur’s defense attaché in Cambodia. The region and its temples are at the center of territorial disputes between Cambodia and Thailand, which erupted into a brief and violent conflict at the end of July, causing at least 35 deaths, and resolved with a ceasefire agreement mediated by Malaysia and strongly supported by the USA.
