19 Agosto 2025

(Adnkronos) – Eemeli Peltonen, a 30-year-old Finnish Social Democratic deputy, was found lifeless in the Finnish Parliament building, whose activities are currently suspended for the summer break. The Assembly’s press office announced: “The person found lifeless in the Parliament building is Eemeli Peltonen, a first-term deputy”. According to initial police investigations, Peltonen died around 11 a.m. At the moment, foul play is ruled out and, according to Finnish media reports, it could be a suicide.

“Eemeli Peltonen’s death deeply saddens me, as it does all of us. He was a highly valued member of our community and we will miss him deeply,” said the chairwoman of the Social Democratic parliamentary group, Tytti Tuppurainen. “Today we received tragic news from Parliament,” Finnish President Alexander Stubb wrote on X. The Finnish flag was displayed in front of the Parliament building, in central Helsinki, as a sign of mourning. Originally from Järvenpää, in the Finnish region of Uusima, Peltonen had requested sick leave last June following a nosocomial infection contracted in the spring during treatment for a kidney disease.
