(Adnkronos) – At least 20 people have died in northern Pakistan due to the torrential rains that in the last few hours have devastated several villages in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. The region has been hit in recent days by an unusually intense and deadly monsoon season.
“Several villages have been razed to the ground in the Swabi district and the initial death toll from the torrential rains is at least 20,” said a senior official of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, also confirmed by a local official. Authorities fear the death toll could rise as rescue operations continue.
