(Adnkronos) – North Korea denies what Seoul claimed, according to which it had removed some of the loudspeakers for propaganda at the border. The clarification came from the powerful sister of the North Korean leader, Kim Yo jong, who in a note published by Kcna contested the statements of the South Korean army: Pyongyang “has never removed” the loudspeakers “and we don’t want to do it”. “We have made it clear on several occasions that we do not want to improve relations with South Korea,” said Kim Jong un’s sister, reiterating that this position “will be enshrined in our Constitution in the future”.
In recent days, Seoul had announced that North Korea had removed some of the loudspeakers used for propaganda at the border, after the south had ‘silenced’ them. South Korea had ‘turned them back on’ – amid protests from residents of the area, who complain about the ‘noise’ all day, often even at night – in June 2024 after six years ‘of pause’ by decision of the now-dismissed president Yoon Suk Yeol, ‘hawk’ in relations with Pyongyang, in response to the launch of balloons full of garbage from North Korea. Then, in June, the new president Lee Jae myung had ordered the interruption of the broadcasts in what the army had called a move to “restore trust and achieve peace on the Korean peninsula”.
