(Adnkronos) – Twenty-one people who contracted the infection, two of whom died, and a massive cheese recall across France. This is the toll of the health alert linked to the Listeria bacterium identified in products from the Chavegrand company, in the Creuse department, as reported by the French press. The discovery, announced on August 12, led to the withdrawal from the market of about 50 pasteurized milk products sold in large-scale distribution due to suspected links to the wave of listeriosis cases.
According to the French National Public Health Agency (Santé publique France – Spf), the people affected by the bacterium are 11 women and 10 men, between 34 and 95 years old. Eighteen people are over 65. Three of them were following chronic drug therapies “likely to favor intestinal infections”, while the others had risk factors, including tumors, diabetes and heart disease. “All patients have been hospitalized,” Spf said, specifying the clinical forms observed: 16 septicemias, 4 neuromeningeal forms and another invasive form.
