(Adnkronos) – The Colombian Prosecutor’s Office has indicted four of the people involved in the murder of senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe for aggravated homicide. Uribe died on Monday after two months of hospitalization following the attack he suffered during an electoral event on the outskirts of Bogotá. “The Prosecutor’s Office has indicted four of the alleged perpetrators for aggravated homicide for the planning and execution of the assassination of Senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, which took place on June 7 in the western area of Bogotá,” the statement reads.

The people affected by the measure are José Arteaga Hernández, alias “El Costeño”, alleged mastermind of the attack, Cristian González Ardila, the fifteen-year-old who shot Uribe, Katherine Andrea Martínez, alias “Gabriela”, who handed the young man the murder weapon, a Glock pistol, and William Fernando González Cruz, who allegedly transported “El Costeño” and “Grabiela” after the attack. The Prosecutor’s Office also indicted Martínez and González Cruz for “aggravated criminal association” after obtaining new evidence.

“These four individuals are formally linked, based on their possible responsibility for the crime, to various offenses and remain in custody,” the agency said, although the investigation remains open in order to “identify other individuals involved” in the attack. Miguel Uribe Turbay died from the consequences of gunshot wounds to the head and leg during an electoral event held on June 7 in the city of Fontibón, in Bogotá, the country’s capital. Uribe’s mother, a lawyer and journalist, was kidnapped in 1990 by the Medellin Cartel and died in 1991, when Uribe was five years old, during a tragically ended liberation attempt.
