(Adnkronos) – Egypt is accelerating efforts to mend the rift between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) caused by Tehran’s decision to reduce cooperation with the Vienna-based organization, accusing it of remaining silent in the face of Israeli and US attacks on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear sites. According to local media reports, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held two separate talks yesterday with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, and with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry explained that Abdelatty held these two talks as part of Cairo’s efforts for de-escalation in the region and the resumption of cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.
In contacts with Araghchi, Abdelatty stressed the importance of following diplomatic paths and creating the conditions for relaunching dialogue on the Iranian nuclear program, strengthening mutual trust and promoting regional stability. With Grossi, the Egyptian diplomat discussed the latest developments in the Iranian nuclear dossier and ways to strengthen cooperation on the peaceful use of nuclear energy for the benefit of the countries of the region.
