(Adnkronos) – A military plane was set to airlift a further 100 tonnes of desperately needed food supplies to the hunger-stricken Gaza Strip on Friday from Rome, the foreign ministry wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“Italy’s humanitarian commitment to #Gaza continues tirelessly. Loaded last night and departing this morning, thanks to collaboration with the defence ministry another 100 tons of food aid destined for the civilian population in the Strip, as part of #FoodForGaza,” read the post.
Israel’s government has agreed to provide corridors for the airlift and has pinpointed safe drop zones, according to the foreign ministry.
The Italian government launched its ‘Food for Gaza’ scheme last year with the Rome-based UN World Food Programme and Food and Agriculture Organisation, the Red Cross and Red Crescent and Italy’s civil protection agency.
