Libya: Alberini, Suleiman have ‘fruitful exchange’

7 Agosto 2025

(Adnkronos) – Italy’s envoy to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, and National Oil Company (NOC) chairman, Masoud Suleimani, held “fruitful” talks Thursday that looked at the “strategic” energy sector and prospects for development, the embassy wrote on X.

“Meeting between Ambassador Alberini and NOC Chairman, Masoud Suleimani. Fruitful exchange of views on the strategic partnership between Italy and Libya in the energy sector and on development prospects,” read the post.

Alberini met with Libya’s planning minister Mohammed al-Zidani for talks Monday on its economy and opportunities for Italian companies. The talks also focused on bilateral cooperation in the agri-food, fishing and industrial sectors, the embassy posted to X.

Italy is keen to stabilise oil-rich Libya – its former colony – and has extensive business interests in the conflict-wracked country, especially in the energy sector, where the Eni group is a major foreign investor.
