(Adnkronos) – Three people were arrested in Germany as part of an investigation into a far-right network dismantled in December 2022 and suspected of planning a coup in the country. The arrests of the three men, all German citizens, suspected of “belonging to a terrorist organization and of planning an act of high treason”, took place during searches in several regions of southern and eastern Germany directed in particular against six people. This was announced by the Munich public prosecutor’s office and criminal police in a joint statement.
About twenty people suspected of belonging to this group are currently on trial in three different proceedings that began in the spring of 2024, in Stuttgart, Munich and Frankfurt. Had the plan been successful, Prince Reuss, a businessman descended from a line of aristocrats, would have been installed as head of Germany. According to investigators, the three men arrested today participated in April 2022, along with other members of the group, in shooting exercises at a former Bundeswehr site, which should have prepared them for a possible assault on the Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament.
