(Adnkronos) – The French government will expel a Palestinian student who had been welcomed from the Gaza Strip to Sciences Po in Lille for sharing an antisemitic post on her social media account and who, according to the Paris Interior Ministry, was ”propagating for Hamas”. Furthermore, France has decided to suspend all initiatives to welcome Palestinians from Gaza until the investigation is concluded. This was announced by the French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot. ”She must leave the country. She cannot stay in France,” the ministry said without identifying the student, nor saying whether she will return to the Gaza Strip.
France evacuated hundreds of people from Gaza after the Hamas attacks against Israel on October 7, 2023. On Tuesday, Barrot had stated that France was “dedicating a lot of energy” to get journalists from the French news agency Afp out of the enclave.
Sciences Po Lille did not specify which posts shared by the Palestinian student were deemed antisemitic, but stated that the content was “in open contradiction” with its values. The university explained that it had cancelled the student’s enrollment after consulting several government agencies, including the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
