(Adnkronos) – The Israeli Defense Forces have announced that Roi Wasserstein, a soldier who died by suicide after serving 300 days of combat in the Gaza war, will not be granted “fallen” recognition, as he was not on duty at the time of his death. The Times of Israel reports that Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has instructed his office and IDF personnel to provide assistance, including funeral expenses, to Wasserstein’s family. The Israeli minister’s statements come after two coalition and opposition MPs, Eti Atiah and Merav Ben Ari, called for a review of Wasserstein’s recognition as a fallen soldier.
