(Adnkronos) – The tsunami waves have begun to hit the Marquesas Islands of French Polynesia, about 10,000 kilometers (6,000 miles) away from the epicenter of the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the far east of Russia. This is according to local authorities, as reported by CNN. “The highest waves are expected in the coming hours and will be between 1.1 and 2.5 meters, therefore lower than the previous forecasts that spoke of waves up to 4 meters,” said the High Commission of the Republic of French Polynesia on its social.
