(Adnkronos) – Four people, including a police officer, were killed in a shooting in a Manhattan skyscraper in New York, where a man opened fire indiscriminately before taking his own life. A fifth person was seriously injured, city mayor Eric Adams told reporters. The skyscraper’s cameras show the attacker getting out of a black BMW carrying an M-4 rifle, before entering the building and opening fire, immediately hitting a police officer. Then, after taking the elevator to the 33rd floor, where the offices of Rudin Management, the owner of the skyscraper, are located, the man fired randomly before committing suicide.
The building where the tragedy took place is located at 345 Park Avenue and is also home to the Blackstone hedge fund, the Kpmg company and the National Football League. The police believe that the man acted alone and has been identified as Shane Tamura: a pistol, ammunition, magazines and medicines with his name on them were found in his car. According to Las Vegas authorities, the alleged attacker had a history of mental problems, but despite this he had a regular license to possess weapons.
He reportedly arrived in New York yesterday after driving across the country from Nevada. His victims are a 36-year-old policeman of Bengali origin, two men and a woman, while another man remains hospitalized in critical condition.
