(Adnkronos) – Kim Yo Jong, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, invites Donald Trump to recognize what she considers the new “reality”, reminding the American president that the situation has “changed” compared to his first term at the White House, despite relations between leaders “not being bad”. The official North Korean media report a statement under the ‘slogan’ “Contacts between North Korea and the US are only a ‘hope’ of the United States”. It is reiterated that Pyongyang will not compromise on nuclear power with the message that new talks between North Korea and the United States are possible if Washington gives up its demands on the dossier.
“No one can deny reality”, Kim thunders, convinced that “recognizing” “reality” with “changed geopolitical capacity and context” should be “the prerequisite for predicting the future and thinking”. “Any attempt to deny North Korea’s position as a nuclear-armed state will be categorically rejected (…)”, she urges in the statement reported by the North Korean agency Kcna after Trump had defined the country as a “great nuclear nation” in recent months.
“It is important to note that 2025 is not 2018 nor 2019”, Kim points out, with a clear reference to the meetings between Trump and Kim Jong Un that made history. And, is the message, the United States cannot hope to use the relationship between the two leaders to stop Pyongyang. “I don’t want to deny the fact that the personal relationship between our head of state and the current US president is not bad – it reads – But if the personal relationship between the leaders of North Korea and the US is to serve the purpose of denuclearization it cannot be interpreted otherwise than as a mockery”. And she concludes: “If the United States does not accept the new reality, a meeting between North Korea and the United States will remain a ‘hope’ for the Americans”.
