Philippines: houses collapsed due to tropical storm, at least 6 dead

23 Luglio 2025

(Adnkronos) – A tropical storm is hitting Southeast Asia, intensifying the torrential monsoon rains in the Philippines. According to the BBC, the strong storm caused the collapse of some houses in the southern coastal village of Tubig Tanah, which has been at the center of Typhoon Wipha for several days. Philippine authorities have declared a state of calamity and reported at least six deaths caused by the floods. In the past few hours, Typhoon Wipha has hit the northern provinces of Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa with winds reaching 74 km/h, slowing down from the initial about 100 km/h, the national meteorological agency said. Some videos circulating online show entire houses “sucked up” by the water and roads turned into overflowing rivers. 50,000 people have reportedly been evacuated around Manila while the storm, which also caused damage in Vietnam, will move further inland in the coming hours, authorities say.
