(Adnkronos) – Foreign minister Antonio Tajani will open an Italy-Algeria business forum in Rome attended by around 500 Italian and Algerian companies on Wednesday which aims to bolster bilateral trade and investment and give new impetus to excellent economic ties between the two countries.
The forum is taking place at the Parco dei Principi hotel in Rome on the same day as an Italy-Algeria intergovernmental forum, according to a foreign ministry statement. Opening addresses and the plenary session of the business forum are open to the press, the statement said.
The opening speeches at the business forum and its plenary session will be streamed live on the Farnesina’s YouTube channel.
In the morning, the forum agenda revolves around thematic panel discussions on the areas of greatest bilateral economic cooperation: energy and the circular economy, infrastructure and transport, sustainable agriculture, advanced industry and pharmaceutical sectors, the statement said.
“Particular attention will be given to B2B meetings: 130 stations are planned for Algerian companies, each of which will have two hours of pre-scheduled appointments with Italian counterparts, in addition to informal meetings at other times during the day,” said the statement.
The afternoon plenary session will open with a segment on partnership inspired by Italian major Eni’s founder Enrico Mattei, followed by in-depth talks on opportunities for bilateral trade and investment and on financial instruments to support bilateral partnership, the statement continued.
Algeria is Italy’s leading gas supplier and its main economic partner in Africa. Italy is the country’s largest customer and its second largest supplier, with exports hitting 2.9 billion euros in value terms last year, the statement added.
There are over 150 Italian companies operating in Algeria, the statement noted.
