(Adnkronos) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was injured during one of the Israeli attacks carried out in June against Iran. Two US intelligence sources confirmed this to CBS News, calling the reports published by Iranian state media accurate, according to which Pezeshkian was participating in a meeting of the Supreme National Security Council at the time of the Israeli attack. Iranian media said Pezeshkian suffered leg injuries while trying to escape through an emergency duct. It is not yet clear whether he was intentionally targeted.
During an interview with Tucker Carlson earlier this month, Pezeshkian claimed that Israel tried to assassinate him by bombing an area where he was attending a meeting. When asked if he believed Israel had tried to kill him, Pezeshkian replied: “They tried, yes, but they failed.” Avoiding indicating the date of the raid, the Iranian president said that “it was not the United States that was behind the attack on my life. It was Israel. I was in a meeting. We were discussing how to proceed. But thanks to the intelligence information from the spies they had, they tried to bomb the area where that meeting was being held,” he said in the interview.
