US: Tajani ‘opimistic’ on tariffs deal with Europe

15 Luglio 2025

(Adnkronos) – Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani is “optimistic” that the United States and the European Union will clinch a deal on tariffs, he told the Fox News TV network at the start of a visit to Washington on Tuesday.

“I think we need to talk, talk, talk to reach a win-win agreement, with a major goal: a big market between Europe, America, Canada, and Mexico,” Tajani told Fox News.

“Now we must work to reach the first step, which is an agreement before 1 August,” said Tajani.

In a letter on Saturday, US president Donald Trump threatened to slap 30% tariffs on EU goods by 1 August if no deal was reached by that date.

“Italy is ready to invest more in the US – America is a good country to invest in more,” Tajani stated.

Italy is also “ready to purchase more, because we clearly need to balance our exports with yours,” the minister continued.

“I feel optimistic because America and Europe are two sides of the same coin,” Tajani said.
