15 Luglio 2025

(Adnkronos) – Members of Italy’s NATO Parliamentary Assembly met exiled Belarus opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, underlining the Italian parliamentary delegation’s solidarity with her and the fight to regain freedom and democracy in her country, the parliament said in a statement on Tuesday.

Tikhanovskaya thanked the Italian parliament and said her husband and opposition activist Sergei Tikhanovsky’s release from prison last month would not have been possible “without the support and solidarity expressed by all European forces,” said the statement.

During the meeting, Tikhanovskaya urged nations to keep up pressure on the Belarus’ authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko until “concrete changes are achived,” the statement continued.

The Italian delegation is in Brussels for the 107th Rose-Roth Seminar organised by the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in collaboration with the European Parliament.

The Italian delegation is led by its president Lorenzo Cesa, and contains MPs Andrea Orsini, Giangiacomo Calovini, Luciano Cantone, Nicola Carè, and senators Michele Barcaiuolo, Stefano Borghesi, Alberto Losacco, Simona Flavia Malpezzi, Paolo Marcheschi and Adriano Paroli, the statement noted.
