(Adnkronos) – Italy’s foreign under-secretary Maria Tripodi on Monday took part in the European Foreign Affairs Council in its trade configuration, where EU-US tariff negotiations, free trade and EU-China trade relations topped the agenda.
“Great unity among partners, Italy supports the efforts of the @EU_Commission to achieve its goals and overcome current and future challenges,” Tripodi wrote on X.
“Italy strongly supports the Commission in the current complex phase of negotiations with the US, aiming to reach a solution to the outstanding trade issues that will strengthen Western unity,” a foreign ministry statement cited Tripodi as saying on Monday.
Tripodi underlined the need for a deal “that will guarantee our companies the stability they need to continue exporting, investing, generating wealth and jobs,” Tripodi said.
“Expanding the network of free trade agreements is a strategic objective for Italy,” Tripodi underlined.
A secure primary materials supply chain is essential and to this end an EU-China Summit scheduled for the end of July is crucial, Tripodi said.
“Frank, targeted and constructive dialogue is needed with Beijing,” she concluded, according to the statement.
