(Adnkronos) – French police officers carried out 176 arrests in the Paris metropolitan area, compared to 156 last year, as part of the reinforced security measures for the July 14 celebrations. The Paris police prefect, Laurent Nunez, declared on Europe 1, specifying that 43 arrests are related to the use and possession of fireworks.
In total, he added, almost 15,000 fireworks were seized. French authorities have banned fireworks during the holiday to avoid the risk of fires due to high temperatures.
