(Adnkronos) – The blades of the Moulin Rouge are spinning again, restored a year after the collapse. Big party in Paris, where in Montmartre in front of France’s most famous cabaret a company of 90 people danced the can-can outside to celebrate the event. The 12-meter blades collapsed in April last year following a mechanical failure, without injuring anyone. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo had called the cabaret a key part of the capital’s cultural heritage and promised a restoration.

“The blades of the Moulin Rouge have always turned, so we had to return this Parisian symbol to Paris, to France, and bring it back to the state it was in before,” said Jean-Victor Clérico, general manager of the cabaret. The blades will now rotate every day from 4pm to 2am. Founded in 1889, the Moulin Rouge became a world symbol of Parisian nightlife at the end of the century, with its famous can-can dancers portrayed in paintings by artists such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
