(Adnkronos) – Italy’s government wants to see Ukraine’s rebuilding during the ongoing war with Russia because the war-ravaged former Soviet republic cannot lack “basic infrastructure”, foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Thursday.
“We want reconstruction to take place while the war is ongoing,” Tajani told the two-day Ukraine Recovery Conference which opened in Rome on Thursday.
“This is because the Ukrainian people cannot be deprived of the infrastructure that is essential for their daily lives,” Tajani underlined.
“It is important to be protagonists in the reconstruction phase,” Tajani told the conference attended by 5,000 participants including 100 government delegations, top European Union officials, business chiefs, leading development banks and 2,000 companies.
Tajani’s opening address to the conference deplored “this incredible war which began (in February 2022) in violation of international law”.
