(Adnkronos) – Beijing assures that the Brics are not seeking a trade confrontation. “Regarding the imposition of tariffs, China has constantly reiterated its position that there are no winners in trade and tariff wars and protectionism is not a way out,” said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning. US President Donald Trump had threatened to impose tariffs higher than 10% on countries that align with the group.
The Brics – said the spokeswoman – are “an important platform for cooperation between emerging markets and developing countries”. It is, she continued, a grouping of states that “promotes openness, inclusiveness and mutually beneficial cooperation” and “does not promote factional clashes nor target any country”.
