4 Luglio 2025

(Adnkronos) – Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani on Friday expressed solidarity with the victims of a huge explosion at a petrol station in Rome’s eastern Prenestino district which injured over 20 people including nine policemen and a firefighter.

Tajani is understood to have called interior minister Matteo Piantedosi and voiced solidarity with security forces and first responders as well as with all the victims of Friday’s explosion, asking for updates on the blast.

Sixteen civilians including the petrol station manager were injured in Friday’s blast, which occurred shortly after 8 am.

Five people were hospitalised with minor burns and injuries from shards of glass, but no one was in a life-threatening condition according to police.

Pope Leo XIV wrote on X he was praying for those involved in the “tragic” explosion, which was heard across the capital.

The fire spread to a nearby depot and shock waves from the blast damaged nearby buildings.

Earlier, a truck hit a pipeline at the fuelling station which distributes petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
