(Adnkronos) – Two Chinese citizens have been arrested in the United States for espionage and for attempting to recruit US Navy personnel, the Justice Department announced. The two were identified as Yuance Chen, 38, and Liren Lai, 39, by the FBI who arrested them last Friday. They face a maximum sentence of ten years if found guilty. The first resides in Happy Valley, Oregon, the second, who had recruited the first in 2021, had arrived in Houston last April on a tourist visa. According to the accusations, they worked for the Ministry of State Security in China. “This case highlights the aggressive and sustained effort by the Chinese government to infiltrate our military and damage our national security from within,” commented Attorney General Pamela Bondi.
