(Adnkronos) – Over 50,000 people have been evacuated following the wildfires that have mainly affected the provinces of Izmir, Manisa, and Hatay. This was announced by the Turkish Disaster Management Agency (AFAD). “Over 50,000 citizens from 41 locations have been temporarily transferred to safe areas,” Afad stated on X.
Firefighters have tamed the flames which – fueled by strong winds – spread to residential areas near the western province of Izmir. The fires raged in three points along a 12-kilometer line near the city, according to Forest Minister Ibrahim Yumakli. Twenty-one people were intoxicated by the smoke and received treatment, the Minister explained, adding that six residential areas in Izmir were evacuated.
