(Adnkronos) – Canada revokes the digital tax on US technology companies, with which it resumes negotiations for an agreement by July 21. The announcement came overnight from Ottawa’s Finance Minister, Francois-Philippe Champagne, according to whom Canada “will revoke the Digital services tax (Dst) in anticipation of a mutually beneficial global trade agreement with the United States.” And in a government note, it is anticipated that US President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney “have agreed that the parties will resume negotiations with the aim of agreeing on an agreement by July 21, 2025.” The Dst, which was supposed to come into force today, hitting giants like Alphabet and Amazon – and because of which Trump had interrupted talks with Ottawa last Friday – would have brought in around 3.5 billion euros to Canadian coffers in five years.
