Supreme Court opens to Trump’s action to end birthright citizenship

27 Giugno 2025

(Adnkronos) – The conservative majority of the Supreme Court has decided to allow Donald Trump to adopt measures to enforce his controversial order to end birthright citizenship, the ius soli that has been the basis of the very formation of the United States for hundreds of years. With a ruling passed with six yeses and three noes from the liberal judges, in fact, the authority of the judges to block the executive order signed by Trump at the national level was not recognized. But the rulings issued to block it can only apply to the groups and individuals who filed appeals against the order, argues the conservative majority of the Court.

While not addressing the merits of the constitutionality of Trump’s decision to deny American citizenship to children of foreigners born on American soil, as enshrined in the 14th Amendment, the Court’s ruling represents a very important victory for Trump because the limitation of the authority of federal judges in blocking his orders may have broad application.
