Netanyahu asks for a two-week pause in the trial

26 Giugno 2025

(Adnkronos) – The legal team of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has filed a request with the Jerusalem District Court to postpone the testimonies in the trial in which he is accused for two weeks. Defense attorney Amit Hadad pointed out how Netanyahu was “forced to dedicate all his time and energy to managing national, diplomatic and security issues of utmost importance”, starting with the war with Iran.

“The Court is respectfully requested to order the cancellation of the hearings in which the Prime Minister was supposed to testify in the next two weeks”, Netanyahu’s lawyer pointed out, also citing “the management of the war in Gaza and the hostage issue”. Following the request, the Court ruled that the State Prosecutor’s office must respond by 10 a.m. tomorrow, after which it will make a decision. Netanyahu is on trial for fraud, breach of trust and corruption.

The request comes after the unprecedented appeal by US President Donald Trump to drop the Netanyahu trial. “I was shocked to learn that the State of Israel, which has just experienced one of its greatest moments in history and is strongly led by Bibi Netanyahu, is continuing its ridiculous witch hunt against its wartime prime minister,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth social.
