(Adnkronos) – The Israeli government welcomed the appeal by US President Donald Trump to cancel the criminal trial against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which he called “a witch hunt”. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir posted on ‘X’ that “Israel is indeed an independent and sovereign state, but President Trump is absolutely right: it is time to cancel the absurd trial that the deep state invented in an attempt to stage a coup against democracy. An urgent reform of the judicial system is a must”.
“President Trump is right: it’s time to cancel the trial,” echoed Culture Minister Miki Zohar on ‘X’, arguing that the charges against the premier “are collapsing anyway”. Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi posted that “although I would like to see Netanyahu continue to counter the political accusation in the trial, this show has long cost us the security of the state”.
