(Adnkronos) – Two years and two months in prison. This is the sentence imposed in Taiwan on a soldier accused of spying for Chinese intelligence in exchange for a sum equivalent to about 2,300 euros. Chen, as the soldier has been identified, will be able to appeal the sentence, reports the CNA agency. According to the investigations, he was in debt and was in contact with a third person who, in turn, had contacts with the Chinese Communist Party.
Chen confessed and was found guilty of violating the laws governing the conduct of military personnel and of having caused “serious damage to national security”. Taiwan is a de facto independent island for which Beijing wants “reunification”.
