(Adnkronos) – The European Commission will provide 20 million euros in humanitarian aid to support vulnerable refugees living in Turkey. The EU executive itself announced this in a statement, specifying that the funds will go to humanitarian partners operating in the country, in close collaboration with the Turkish authorities, to address the basic needs of refugees such as protection, health, water and sanitation services and education in emergencies.
The aid is aimed at refugees who have limited or no access to government services, including the most vulnerable who continue to suffer the consequences of the 2023 earthquake, as well as refugees and migrant groups with specific needs, the Commission explains. The country currently hosts about three million registered refugees, mainly from Syria, along with those from Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran.
